    Kvindehjemmet is located in the Nørrebro quarter of Copenhagen. There are up to 36 women and about 30 children living in the five floors of the house.

  • There is a small bathroom with a toilet and shower in every apartment. There is also a changing table.

  • There is a communal kitchen on each floor. You get your own cabinet and your own shelf in the refrigerator.

  • In the kitchen, it is easy to meet the other women who are living on the floor.

  • On every floor, there are two living rooms. You can use one of them, for instance, if you have guests visiting.

  • On the ground floor, there are several offices. This is where you can find the social workers.

  • It is possible to talk with a psychologist while you are staying at Kvindehjemmet. This is the room where the talks take place.

  • On the fifth floor, we have a large room which we use, among other things, for yoga for women and children.

  • You can get an appointment with our body therapist, who comes a couple of times a month.

  • Børnetræet is our name for Kvindehjemmet’s program for mothers and children. Here you can see the room where many of the talks take place.

  • In Børnetræet, children talk about why they are at a women’s shelter. The staff use different conversation tools and techniques during the talks. This one is an owl mother with her two children. The owl father is also there, a little distance away.

  • Some children need a teddy bear to help them while they are living at Kvindehjemmet. “I love the teddy bear I got at Kvindehjemmet. It lies on the bed and makes me feel happy when I look at it,” says a 13-year old boy.

  • Every child gets a backpack from Mary Fonden with toys and other things, depending on the age of the child. The backpack is a way to show that all children have the right to a life without violence.

  • Every Friday, women and children meet up in Rådgivning and have breakfast together.

  • In the courtyard behind the building, there is a playground for children. It is also a nice place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the sun.

  • This is the back entrance to the house. You must have a special key and a personal code to get into Kvindehjemmet. The house is watched at all times.
